RUNES-SIGNS OF THE TIMES

In the Norse system of communication, the interpretation a single glyph, or a grouping has been used for centuries...by the Viking culture.
I am using Ralph Blum's book, "The Book of Rune Cards" as a reference for these individual RUNES.
Every culture has such symbols to help us make choices regarding our life-path...
The Chinese have developed the I-Ching, the Tarot has been used for centuries in Europe,
even the Egyptians used glyphs to communicate whole concepts with only one picture...
The RUNES have been developed from simple 'stick figures', attached together ,they form glyphs.
Each Glyph has associated with it, very basic concept (example: 1 is The Self).
Within each glyph, there is a foundation of both myth and archetypal tendencies that animate and give reason for each glyph's importance, and reason for being.
In this article, I will introduce the main 25 glyphs and a brief poem associated with each one.
These are only a fraction of the descriptions for each glyph, and not the whole meaning, but certainly give a glimpse into the deep well of information that each possesses.
1- The Self-
Sun and Moon and your own heart speak always of that which abides.
In solitude and stillness know that the journey begins and ends with The Self.
2- Partnership-
I am your beloved, you are my true companion. We meet in the circle at the rainbow's center,
coming together in wholeness. That is the gift of freedom.
3-Signals-
And still the waters rise. Crossing the deeps, a messenger brings the promise of new life unfolding. Oh, Ancient of Days, may the beauty of your intention show in our faces.
4-Separation-
Paths divide, old skins are shed.
How skillful the means that free you to become more truly who you are.
5-Strength-
Honor your passage into darkness. Honor the dying.
The new life holds promises unimagined by the old.
6-Initiation-
Rise and soar on wings of renewed spirit.
What looked familiar before will seem strange, what seemed strange, now familiar.
7-Constraint-
Follow the glistening dew drops to the center of the web.
Limitations define us, Ordeals temper us.
See the Great Teacher behind every disguise.
8-Fertility-
A butterfly emerges still moist from the cocoon.
This is how new life comes, softly, secretly, among the green shoots.
9-Defense-
Red berries gathered from the labryinth will sustain you.
As you meet obstacles on your way, call each one Teacher and Friend.
10- Protection-
The dunes shift and shift forever, feather grass restless in the wind.
Cool your emotions. Follow your path. That is your protection.
11-Possessions-
Everything speaks of choice.
The true kernel lies hidden in the soul. Be devout in your attention and you will be nourished.
12-Joy-
The storm clouds have parted and Heaven's breath glows on the water.
Knowing such beauty, shall I not say that I am truly blessed?
13-Harvest-
The first green shoots sprout from turned earth.
Patience, patience my beloved, in your season you will know
the harvest of the self.
14-Opening-
Fire is Heaven's light in it's palest hue.
That fiery branch burning at the
center claims its kinship with the sun.
What hid itself in shadows is clear to me now.
15-Warrior-
Undertake your passage in trust and innocence,
for such is the Warrior Way.
And at the end, send heavenward the burning arrows
of your perfect faith.
16-Growth-
We grow as the tree grows, putting out new leaves in Spring.
And through it all, the Soul remains hidden, adding ring upon ring upon ring.
17-Movement-
The warrior ship plows the waves, yet no hand grabs the tiller, none draws an oar.
Oh mariner, surrender to the mystery. All else follows.
18-Flow-
Between Movement and Disruption comes a perfect moment when all things sing together--
sky, sea, sand, earth, blood. Their song is called Flowering.
19-Disruption-
The moon is hidden, thunder strikes.
How can you sleep when your very bed calls in the lightning? Look around you, nothing is the same.
20-Journey-
The path grows steeper now, the clouds lie far below.
I climb, no longer alone, and yet no longer burdened by what was behind.
My heart is filled with gratitude.
21-Gateway-
Be a lover of gateways. Approach them softly.
For once you pass through there will be changes and much that you will gladly lay aside.
22-Breakthrough-
Down the cathedral aisles of deep and ancient forests bursts the morning fire.
Take heart, my Beloved, What is Divine cannot be
separated from its Source.
23-Standstill-
Praise Winter, Gather snowdrops.
Listen for your name on the chill wind and bless the seeds waiting in the darkness for the call of spring.
24-Wholeness-
Where is the boundary between Earth and Heaven?
After all, it is Love that loves through us, is it not?
25-The Unknowable-
Total trust, surrender, relinquishing control--
all this is only words.
Look into the night sky, Tell me what you see.
